Today, leading gemologists consider pearls from China the most beautiful of all freshwater cultured pearls. The gems of Moon River Pearls' classic lines are harvested from the temperate waters of Lake Taihu in the Yangzi Delta plain. Serene and beautiful, Lake Taihu is the third largest freshwater lake in China. (Besides pearl production, the 2250-square kilometer lake is home to a thriving fishing industry and boasts unique ornamental limestone rocks that are used to decorate traditional Chinese gardens.) The care of our pearl mussels is overseen by experienced pearl farmers who, over many decades, have honed their techniques for implanting, growing, and harvesting pearls. Moon River Pearls’ mussels are allowed to remain unmolested for up to five years before their pearls are harvested. The result of our patience and experience is a beautiful, durable gem with one hundred percent solid nacre and wonderful luster, size and color.
